project overview

In relation to marine resources, energy and mineral resources, climate and disasters, the place called “sea” is attracting increasing attention.
On the other hand, the seafloor topography that we humans know is still about 9 to 15% of the total ocean, and the current situation is that we cannot know the ocean in the first place.
The Nippon Foundation and Leave a Nest started DeSET in 2017 to overcome this situation and lay the groundwork for innovation and new industries on the ocean stage in the future.

DeSET is a development project to create innovative technologies that will dramatically accelerate the creation of seafloor topographic maps.
To achieve this, DeSET has gathered researchers and engineers from various fields, areas, and industries to form a technology development team in a super-different field.

So far, we have formed three teams each in 2017 and 2018. Currently, three teams formed in 2018 are developing technology. At the final presentation, each team will announce the results of their research for about one year and three months and their future goals.
